Kat's Kitchenware Essentials

Kat's Kitchenware Essentials is a breakdown of actual products I love and use daily. The list of my recommended products is separated below by category. Please note the images are links as well as the underlined portion of each description. The only item I currently do not have a recommendation for you is kitchen knives — I am in search of a cost effective set for you.

I hope these recommendations help make shopping for kitchenware for your home a little easier.

The Kitchenware Essentials is part of the Cooking Essentials list that contains both my Pantry and Kitchenware must haves. The Cooking Essentials can be found to the right as an image or as a downloadable printout for your ease of use by clicking the button below.

All Metal Pots & Pans

This 12-piece Cuisinart cookware set is something I use daily. This set is currently $156. When using stainless steel pans always preheat. Place the pan on the stove over medium-high heat for a few minutes to allow it to heat up. This will help ensure even cooking and will help food not stick.

Pre-Cut Parchment Paper

12 x 16” pre-cut parchment paper is the way to go. Parchment paper is naturally non-stick, which means that it can prevent food from sticking to your baking sheet. This is especially useful when baking items that are prone to sticking.

Sheet Pans

A good sheet pan shouldn't warp when you put it in the oven. These Nordic Ware sheet pans are my go to. This variety pack is the way to go — giving you a full sheet, half sheet (standard size), and quarter sheet. No need to get these in nonstick if you have parchment sheets or aluminum foil on hand.

Glass Measuring Cups

Glass measuring cups are more accurate than other materials as they do not flex or warp. This ensures that the measurement markings on the cups remain consistent and precise. They can withstand high temperatures, making them suitable for use with hot liquids such as melted butter or boiling water. Glass measuring cups are a more eco-friendly option compared to plastic measuring cups, which can contribute to plastic waste.

DRY measuring cups & Measuring spoons

These dry measuring cups & measuring spoons have the measurements embossed into them. The embossed markings on the measuring cups are permanent and will not fade, chip or peel off over time, ensuring their accuracy and longevity. This is ideal since the printed on measurements tend to wear off with repeated use and cycles in the dishwasher.

Cutting boards

A daily use cutting board should have a well to catch liquid, nonslip material to ensure ease of use, and dishwasher safe for easy clean up. These OXO cutting boards come in a two pack and are a great starting place to figure out what you feature you like in a cutting board.

Glass Food Storage Containers

Glass Food Storage Containers are strong and durable, and can withstand high temperatures, making it ideal for use in ovens, microwaves, and freezers. Glass is 100% recyclable, and can be reused over and over again without losing its quality. Glass containers are airtight and keep food fresh for longer periods of time.

Hand juicer

A hand citrus juicer is designed to extract the maximum amount of juice from citrus fruits while minimizing waste. It is an efficient way to get the juice you need quickly and easily. I keep the orange size juicer so any size citrus will fit.

Fish Spatula

A fish spatula is a thin and flexible spatula allowing you to slide it easily under delicate fish and other foods without breaking them. This can help prevent food from sticking to the cooking surface and becoming damaged.

Y Peeler

The Y-shaped handle of this peeler allows for a comfortable and secure grip, which reduces the risk of slips and injuries while peeling. A Y peeler is a useful kitchen tool that can help make meal preparation faster, easier, and more efficient. Its ergonomic design, sharp blade, and versatility make it a popular choice among home cooks and professional chefs alike.

oven thermometer

Most ovens have a built-in thermostat that measures the temperature of the oven, but it may not always be accurate — especially in rentals. An oven thermometer in an inexpensive way to provide a more accurate reading of the temperature, ensuring that your food is cooked to the correct temperature and consistency.

Zester

Zesters can be used to grate a wide range of food items, including cheese, vegetables, chocolate, and spices. They can also be used to zest citrus fruits, which adds a burst of flavor to many dishes.
